Honolulu, Hawai‘i (1/3/08) – Michele Nagamine has been appointed as the new HPU women’s soccer coach for Hawai‘i Pacific University, as announced today by HPU. “I am very excited about the opportunity to work with the student-athletes at Hawai‘i Pacific University,” said Nagamine. “I know first hand how much local talent Hawai‘i has, and it is my personal goal to build HPU women’s soccer into a contender for the Pac West championship.”

Born and raised in Hawai‘i, Nagamine brings a wealth of experience to her new head coaching position. Since 1993, she has been the Head Girls’ Varsity Coach at Kamehameha Schools. During her time at KSBE, her Warrior teams have won five Interscholastic League of Honolulu championships (1995, 1996, 1999, 2006, 2007), and four Hawai‘i State Titles (1995, 1996, 2006, 2007). Nagamine is a 6-time ILH Coach of the Year, and 4-time Hawai‘i State Coach of the Year. Recently, she was named the 2007 National High School Coach of the Year awarded by the NSCAA, the National Soccer Coaches Association. Nagamine also holds an NSCAA Regional Diploma, as well as a US Soccer Federation “B” Coaching License, and US National Youth Coaching License.

“HPU will certainly benefit from the strong coaching expertise and leadership skills that Michelle Nagamine brings to the position,” comments Darren Vorderbruegge, HPU Athletics Director. “I am confident that Michele will work hard to build on the strong foundation of the HPU women’s soccer program.”

In addition to her high school coaching accomplishments, Nagamine serves as the Technical Director for Leahi Soccer Club (Honolulu, Hawai‘i). Under her leadership, the club has grown into one of the largest and most competitive soccer clubs in Hawai‘i.
