U19s Win the Hawaii International Cup (Posted: 7/24/2005)

Congratulations to Leahi U19 White on winning the GU19 Division of the Hawaii International Cup. The girls went undefeated (3-0-1). With an impressive 10-0 win over JUSA Select of Cal-South on Friday, the girls had their minds set on the championships. Saturday would prove a more challenging as the team dominated Bulls Black, but couldn't find the back of the net and tied 1-1. In the afternoon cross-pool game, Leahi was able to pull off a 2-1 upset of the older Bulls Red team. Due to the tie in pool, and the cross-pool game not counting in the standings, Leahi was forced into a tie breaker shoot-out with Bulls Black. With the score tied after the 5th shooter, Hea Kane calmly placed her shot into the bottom corner to give Leahi a lead. The Bulls shooter sent her shot wide left and Leahi advanced to the Championship game to play Bulls Black again, but this time it would count! With 30 seconds to go in injury time, and a narrow 2-1 lead, Leahi gave up a corner kick that would cost them. The Bulls converted and tied the game at 2-2. After 2 scoreless OTs, the game was decided on penalty kicks with Sarah "Yoda" Yoro putting away Leahi's 5th shot and clinching the championship.
The team was comprised of: Kylee Ah Choy,Elisa Asato, Kelsey Baker, Vanessa Butin, Carisa Calpo, Kim Culver, Nicole Ha, Tehane Higa, Tobi Kanehira, Hea Kane, Erin Kikumoto, Carianne Makino, Rachel Matsukawa, Ashley Medcalf, Ashley Nied, Jesi Sasaki, Sarah Yoro and Stephanie Yoro. The girls were coached by Michele "Bud" Nagamine, Scott Keopuhiwa and Bruce Omura.
