Leahi Dominates SB's All State Team! (Posted: 4/2/2007)

April 1, 2007 - Leahi Soccer Club dominated the Star Bulletin's All State Girls Soccer team released today. Kamehameha's Mari Punzal (ILH Offensive Player of the Year) was named All State Player of the Year by the daily paper. Punzal, pictured above (photo courtesy Star Bulletin), helped lead the Warriors to the 2007 ILH and State Championships after sitting out most 2006 with a knee injury.

9 of 11 All State First Teamers play club with our own 89 or 90 Premier teams. Joining Punzal on the 1st team is Kylee Ah Choy (ILH Defensive Player of the Year), Jennifer Eugenio(90) and Kanani Taaca(90) of Kamehameha. Ah Choy is a member of 89 Premier, while Punzal is on the 90 Premier.

Stephanie Yoro(89) and Natalie Wong(90) of Mililani HS were Co-Players of the Year for the OIA West. Megan Fuller(90) of Pearl City lead the OIA in Goals is also a first team all state pick.

Ashley Medcalf (89) of Christian Academy, helped lead her Pac-5 team to the Division II State Championship and was recognized as an All State First Team selection, the only from a Division II Program.

Chaney Lopez & Chyanne Alejado (90s) of Kapolei High School helped Kapolei to their first ever OIA title and a spot in the state final. Also selected to the All State team was the always dangerous Iolani striker Jesi Sasaki (89).

Coach Michele "Bud" Nagamine was named Coach of the Year for leading her Kamehameha Warriors to their 5th State Championship and second in a row.

Also recognized by Second Team awards were Forwards: Meleana Shim, Kamehameha (91); Midfielders: Nicole Ha, Iolani, (89); Brit Sanford, Punahou, (91); Carisa Calpo, Pearl City, (89); Marisa Schoen, Punahou, (89); Jayann Gabrio, Punahou, (89); Fullbacks: Nicole Akiu, Kamehameha, (90)
